Le mémorial se trouve dans le cimetière Saint-Véran qui s'étend sur 14 hectares et qui comprend quelques 12 000 tombes. On rencontre diverses tombes de personnages plus ou moins célèbres, qui sont parfois l'œuvre de sculpteurs encore connus ou désormais oubliés (Félix Charpentier, Félix Devaux, Augustin Cerri, Alphonse Guérin, etc.).
C'est, avec le cimetière du Père-Lachaise, l'un des plus anciens de France et un véritable musée en plein air de la sculpture et de l'art funéraire.
En 1999, pour faire face à une demande grandissante, la Ville d’Avignon a inauguré un columbarium, afin de pouvoir accueillir les urnes des personnes désireuses de se faire incinérer.
Les arbres centenaires constituent un véritable arboretum des essences méditerranéennes.

The memorial is in the cemetery Saint-Véran which extends on 14 hectares and which includes some 12 000 graves. There are various tombs of more or less famous people, sometimes sculptors still known or now forgotten (Felix Charpentier, Felix Devaux, Augustin Cerri, Alphonse Guerin, etc.).
It is, with the Père-Lachaise cemetery, one of the oldest in France and a real open-air museum of sculpture and funerary art.
In 1999, to meet a growing demand, the City of Avignon inaugurated a columbarium, to accommodate the urns of people wishing to be cremated.
Centennial trees are a veritable arboretum of Mediterranean species.
