Over and above a newish section of the dual-lane, divided Oxley Highway, between 'the Big Roundabout' of the Pacific Highway, and John Oxley Drive is a cable/rope suspension bridge that crosses the four lanes, for the use of arboreal marsupials. [Although, over a year ago I saw it put to another use, by local pranksters - see photo from 2017!] About three kilometres of the highway is completely fenced, with areas on the 'bush side' having obstacles to direct the animals to the crossings.
This section of the Oxley Highway (south of Thrumster, an outer 'suburb' of Port Macquarie) was placed through bushland in 2016, and there was a need for 'possums' - Ring-tailed, Brushy, and Greater Gliders - to be able to cross over the highway. A close-up of this style wire cable, and rope bridge can be seen in the PDF of a similar one south of Sydney: (

I hadn't realised, until stopping at the Arboreal Crossing, that there is also a tunnel under the Oxley Highway, with a set of elevated timber structures as an alternate crossing.
