[DE] "Die katholische Pfarrkirche St. Johannes der Täufer in Adenau, einer Stadt im Landkreis Ahrweiler (Rheinland-Pfalz), wurde ursprünglich im Mittelalter errichtet. Das Gebäude steht mitten im Ort (Kirchstraße 1) und ist ein geschütztes Kulturdenkmal.
Die Johannes dem Täufer geweihte Kirche bestand wohl bereits im 10. Jahrhundert. 1224 schenkte Gerhard von Are auf der Nürburg seine Eigenkirche der Johanniterkommende in Adenau. Im 12. Jahrhundert wurden zwei Seitenschiffe und im 13. Jahrhundert ein neuer Chor angefügt, der ausschließlich von den Johannitern genutzt wurde. Vermutlich Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts wurde das Kirchenschiff eingewölbt. 1908/09 wurde der alte Chor und die Sakristei abgerissen und ein Neubau errichtet. Bei einem Bombenangriff am 27. Januar 1945 wurde das alte Langhaus völlig zerstört, sodass 1969 nach Plänen des Architekten Otto Vogel ein Neubau errichtet worden. Teile der alten Außenmauern wurden zu einem Atrium umgestaltet."
[EN] "The Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist in Adenau, a town in the district of Ahrweiler (Rhineland-Palatinate), was originally built in the Middle Ages. The building stands in the middle of the village (Kirchstraße 1) and is a protected cultural monument.
The church dedicated to John the Baptist probably existed already in the 10th century. In 1224 Gerhard von Are donated his own church to the Johanniterkommende in Adenau. In the 12th century two aisles and in the 13th century a new choir were added, which was used exclusively by the Knights of St. John. The nave was probably vaulted at the end of the 15th century. In 1908/09 the old choir and the sacristy were demolished and a new building erected. The old nave was completely destroyed in a bombing raid on 27 January 1945, so that a new building was erected in 1969 according to plans by architect Otto Vogel. "Parts of the old outer walls have been converted into an atrium."
