Die römische Wasserleitung aus der Eifel nach Köln ist der größte antike Technikbau nördlich der Alpen und eines der populärsten Bodendenkmäler des Rheinlands. Aus fünf Quellgebieten in der sog. "Sötenicher Kalkmulde" wurden in einem 54,4 km langen Aquädukt täglich 20 Millionen Liter besten Trinkwassers nach Köln geleitet. Der Aquädukt wurde als Gefällleitung mit einem Gefälle von 0,1% - je nach Gelände - teils oberirdisch und teils unterirdisch angelegt. Zwischen Rheinbach und Meckenheim wurde beispielsweise eine 1400 Meter lange Brücke zur Überquerung des Swistbachtals errichtet. Gebaut wurde die Wasserleitung etwa 80-90 n. Chr.

Entlang des ehemaligen Verlaufs der Wasserleitung wurden an verschiedenen Stellen ausgegrabene und restaurierte Teile des Aquädukts ausgestellt, so auch hier an der Straße "Am Getreidespeicher" in Rheinbach, in der Nähe des Bahnhofs. Ein etwa drei Meter langes Teilstück wurde hier ausgestellt. Die untere Hälfte ist im Original erhalten, die obere Häfte wurde zerstört und mit Beton und originalen Steinen nachgebaut. Der Aquädukt wird vor Regen durch eine Holzüberdachung geschützt, an der Wand nebenan wurde eine Informationstafel angebracht.

The Roman aqueduct from the Eifel to Cologne is the largest antique engineering construction north of the Alps and one of the most popular monuments of the Rhineland. From five headwaters in the so-called "Sötenicher Kalkmulde", 20 million liters of the best drinking water were routed daily to Cologne in a 54.4 km long aqueduct. The aqueduct was created as a downhill slope with a gradient of 0.1%, depending on the terrain partly above ground and partly underground. Between Rheinbach and Meckenheim, for example, a 1400 meter long bridge was built to cross the valley of the creek Swist. The aqueduct was built about 80-90 AD.

Along the former course of the aqueduct excavated and restored parts of the aqueduct are exhibited in different places, such as here at the street "Am Getreidespeicher" in Rheinbach, near the railway station. An approximately three-meter-long section is exhibited here. The lower half is preserved in the original, the upper half was destroyed and reconstructed with concrete and original stones. The aqueduct is protected from rain by a wooden canopy and an information board has been placed on the wall next to it.
