The Centennial Flame
This flame was first lit by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson on December 31, 1966, to mark the first 100 years of Confederation. On December 13, 2017, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rededicated the Centennial Flame to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
The shields of the provinces and territories encircle the flame. Flowers of the provinces and territories and the dates they joined the Confederation, are carved around the fountain.
Le premier ministre Lester B. Pearson alluma cette flamme le 31 décembre 1966 pour marquer le premier centenaire de la Confédération. Pour célébrer le 150e anniversaire de la Confédération, le premier ministre Justin Trudeau dédia de nouveau la flamme du centenaire le 13 décembre 2017.
La Flamme du Centenaire
Les écus des provinces et territoires forment un cercle autour de la flamme. Leur date d’entrée dans la Confédération ainsi que leur emblème floral sont gravés en bordure de la fontaine.
