The Fernie Memorial Arena is the place to go for indoor ice skating in Fernie. They have multiple drop-in skate times and formats throughout the week.
The current rink was built in 1960, It is the fourth indoor ice skating rink to be built in the city over the course of 110 years (the others were destroyed by fires or flooding).
For 2018 the following drop-in skate formats are available
Adult Shinny (Mon-Thur 8:45 AM - 10:15 AM)
Free Parent and Tot (Wed 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM)
Skate and Shoot (Wed 11:45 AM - 1 PM)
Public Skating and Free Public Skate (variable, check website)
2018 Rates:
Infants rate: free
Preschooler (3-5 years old): $3.00
Child (6 -12 years old): $4.00
Youth (13-20 years old): $5.00
Adult rate: $6.00
Senior rate (55 +): $5.00
Family rate: $15.00
The rink is also used by skating and hockey associations including the Fernie Skating Club, CanSkate, Fernie Minor Hockey, and the Fernie Ghostriders (Junior B Hockey Club).
The arena made national and international news in October 2017 when an ammonia gas leak resulted in the deaths of three workers. The arena has since undergone upgrades and reopened for use nearly one year later.
