Sie gilt als Hauptwerk der deutschen Romantik und als Gesamtkunstwerk des 19. Jahrhunderts: die reich ausgestattete Apollinariskirche. Hier startet die Rundwanderung, die abwechslungsreich zu Passagen mit herrlichen Ausblicken und durch schattige Wälder führt.
Die Tour beginnt direkt mit einem Paukenschlag: Die im 19. Jahrhundert im neugotischen Stil erbaute Apollinariskirche – umgeben von einem eindrucksvollen Ensemble an Klostergebäuden, Monumenten und Gartenanlagen – liegt im Hang des Apollinarisberges. Die ersten kirchlichen Bauten an dieser Stelle werden schon im 9. Jahrhundert vermutet. Seit dem 13. Jahrhundert befindet sich eine Reliquie des heiligen Apollinaris auf dem Berg. In der Krypta der jetzigen Kirche steht ein Sarkophag aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, der die Hauptreliquie enthält.
Aber damit hat die Tour noch nicht ihr Pulver verschossen. Eine Treppe hinter der Kirche führt zu einem Aussichtspunkt, auf welchem eine große Statue des heiligen Franziskus steht. Von hier hat man einen fantastischen Ausblick über die Apollinariskirche, den Ort Remagen und das nördliche Rheintal.
Nach einem Aufstieg umrundet der Weg den Weiher am Waldschlösschen um schließlich auf Waldwegen zum Schloss Calmuth zu führen, das früher die Internationale Filmunion beheimatete. Hier wurde u.a. in den 1950er Jahren die Wochenschau produziert und zahlreiche Filme von Laurel und Hardy synchronisiert. Heute befindet sich das Gebäude in Privatbesitz.
Nach einem weiteren Aufstieg über Waldwege und einen neu angelegten Pfad öffnet sich die Landschaft und nach kurzer Zeit erreicht man die Hütte am Scheidskopf. Von hier hat man einen wunderbaren Fernblick in Richtung Hocheifel und kann sehr gut im Relief den Gipfel der Landskrone ausmachen. Abwechslungsreich führt der Weg über Felder und durch Waldbereiche an dem Gelände der Straußenfarm vorbei (Einkehrmöglichkeit; Öffnungszeiten beachten). Mit etwas Glück kann man durch die Büsche eine Straußenherde sehen.
Über federnden Waldboden nähert man sich einem offenen Hochplateau, von wo aus man den Fernblick bis zum Rhein und das Siebengebirge genießen kann. Nun wechselt der Weg zwischen Wald und Waldrand ab und führt uns vorbei an einem kleinen Heidegebiet, welches durch einen Waldbrand entstanden ist, und einem alten jüdischen Friedhof.
Die Apollinaris-Schleife überquert nun das Hochplateau auf der anderen Seite, führt an ein paar Höfen vorbei und bietet dabei erneut beeindruckende Blicke ins Rheintal. Ein letzter steiler Abstieg bringt uns zurück nach Remagen und zu unserem Ausgangspunkt an der Apollinariskirche."

It is considered to be the main work of German Romanticism and a total work of art of the 19th century: the richly decorated Apollinariskirche. This is where the circular hike starts, which takes you to passages with magnificent views and through shady forests.
The tour begins directly with a bang: the Apollinaris Church, built in the 19th century in neo-Gothic style - surrounded by an impressive ensemble of monastery buildings, monuments and gardens - lies on the slope of the Apollinarisberg. The first ecclesiastical buildings on this site are believed to date back to the 9th century. Since the 13th century there has been a relic of Saint Apollinaris on the mountain. In the crypt of the present church there is a sarcophagus from the 14th century which contains the main relic.
But the tour hasn't shot its powder with it yet. A staircase behind the church leads to a vantage point where a large statue of St. Francis stands. From here you have a fantastic view over the Apollinariskirche, the village Remagen and the northern Rhine valley.
After an ascent, the path circles the pond at the Waldschlösschen and finally leads along forest paths to Schloss Calmuth, formerly home of the International Film Union. Here, among other things, the newsreel was produced in the 1950s and numerous films by Laurel and Hardy were dubbed. Today the building is privately owned.
After a further ascent along forest paths and a newly laid out path, the landscape opens up and after a short time you reach the hut at Scheidskopf. From here you have a wonderful view in the direction of Hocheifel and you can see the top of the Landskrone very well in relief. The path leads in a varied way over fields and through forest areas past the area of the ostrich farm (refreshment possible; please note opening times). With a little luck you can see a herd of ostriches through the bushes.
Over a springy forest floor you approach an open high plateau from where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Rhine and the Siebengebirge mountains. Now the way changes between forest and forest edge and leads us past a small heath area, which developed by a forest fire, and an old Jewish cemetery.
The Apollinaris loop now crosses the high plateau on the other side, passes a few farms and again offers impressive views into the Rhine valley. A last steep descent brings us back to Remagen and to our starting point at the Apollinariskirche."
