The prominent hill of East Lomond along with its higher neighbour, West Lomond are landmarks in the Kingdom of Fife and most of central Scotland. Of volcanic origin, the summit of East Lomond is 424 metres high and has an indicator sited here. However the trig pillar can be found beneath the summit on the southern slope around ten metres lower down. With no need for calculations north of here, the pillar was sited on this seemingly unusual location. The pillar is in reasonable condition, occasionally being painted white, and as expected the views are predominately to the south over the Firth of Forth and beyond.

STEEPNESS: The conical summit is steep all around, but most approach routes start from high points thus easing the ascent.

TERRAIN: Grassy, with paths carved out by many walkers which can be muddy when wet.

ACCESSIBILITY: Easily accessible, the car park well up the eastern slope is less than a mile away, and the car park at Craigmead which lies on the road that crosses between East and West Lomond, is only slightly further away.

NAVIGATION: With the pillar not being on the summit, it is easily missed, but in general, it is to the immediate south of the summit on a fairly level area of grass with a faint path leading to it.

DANGER: None apart from slippy terrain in the wet.

Type of Trigpoint: Triangulation Pillar
