Governor’s Totem Pole was commissioned by the Civilian Conservation Corps and carved between 1939-1940. The Tlingit carvers Charlie Tagook began the carving and and William N. Brown finished the work. The totem pole is 31’6” tall, and is carved from a yellow cedar log. It was restored in 1997-1998, and again in 2010.
The seven figures illustrate Tlingit legends. From top to bottom they are: Grandfather Raven, Man, Giant Cannibal, Mosquito, The World, and Old Woman Underneath.
