Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 is located in the Waterways district of Fort McMurray. The branch has operated since 1949, although it's unclear when the present building was constructed.
The building is one of the few in that area to survive the devastating 2016 fires, thanks in part to metal siding construction and the large open spaces surrounding the building.
The legion was nearly closed in 2013 due to declining membership and accumulating debt, but contributions from city council and community support combined with an rapid increase in memberships spared the club from being shuttered.
