[ENG] Hamburg has about 2500 bridges. The oldest preserved bridge is the Zollenbrücke. It was built in 1633 and crosses the former canal of Gröningerstraße. The 25 metre long bridge has three arches of sandstone blocks of different sizes. Above a pillar on the side of the Nikolaifleet the large coat of arms of Hamburg can be seen in stone. The name Zollenbrücke derives from the customs house of Count von Holstein which stood here at that time.
