In Providence, within Roger Williams Park Zoo, is the Soaring Eagle Zipline, which, the web site claims provides views of Providence and Narraganset Bay.

The zoo is located within Roger Williams Park, which is a large city park at the southern end of Providence. From I-95, take the exit for Rhode Island Route 10 and follow the signs into the park. There is one main road in the park to follow to the entrance to the zoo. From there, you need to pay the regular admission into the zoo and follow the map to the access to the zipline.

The zipline is called Soaring Eagle. It is a two-seater where we were strapped into the seat (after paying the fare and being weighed, first), then hauled along the line backwards to a point on the opposite side of a pond and about 115 feet high. We were paused for some moments, then dropped. The ride angled down toward the pond then leveled off and came to the starting point. The brakes brought us to a quick stop.

The zoo site has the following about the ride:

"Soaring Eagle Zip Ride

The Soaring Eagle Zip Ride offers breathtaking views 115 feet above the Zoo allowing riders to see out over Providence and into Narragansett Bay in comfortable side-by-side seats. The ride is sensational. The zip ride is located adjacent to Hasbro's Our Big Backyard in the Zoo's new Explore & Soar area.

Dates: Now Open
Times: Daily (weather permitting)
Price: $12 per rider, $10 for current Roger Williams Park Zoo members.
Must buy admission tickets to the Zoo to buy tickets to ride the Soaring Eagle. Tickets are available at the admissions gate or at the entrance of the ride. Last ticket sold at 4:15 pm, last ride is at 4:30 pm. There is no advanced registration."

Frankly, we were so concentrated on the ride, that we didn't look around that much. The zoo was to the left of us, but the zoo has a lot of trees, so it is hard to see the animals from the ride. I could see the ride from the zoo at some location, through the trees.
