14 year old Dylan Basalari had a goal - he wanted to honor fallen firefighters because he feels that they don't receive the recognition that they deserve. So, he decided to make this his Eagle Scout project. And what a project it turned out to be! After approaching the local community, including firefighters, Dylan had to raise the money needed for the concrete pad, a monument with the firefighters' prayer, another monument with the names of local fallen firefighters and for engraved bricks. Interest was high and on September 30, 2017, Dylan's project was unveiled. In attendance were many of the firefighters who had supported this tremendous undertaking.
The donated brick portion of this project surrounds the flagpole in the center of the memorial. I chose the name Carl Pilcher as my focus brick. Fortunately, it appears that Mr. Pilcher didn't die from a fire related incident but any excess donations received for his funeral were going to be contributed to firefighter education.
