The statue is of three girls in a circle with their hands holding each other's hand and their backs turned. There's a woman on the side of the main column. A sign reads:
""Our Worst Fear is that painful history during World War II will be forgotten. Former 'comfort woman."
This monument bears witness to the sudffering of hundred of thousands of women and girls, euphamistically called "comfort women," who were sexually enslaved by the Japanese Imperial Amred Forces in thirteen Asian Pacific countries from 1931-1945. Most of these women died during their wartime captiviity. This dark hitory was largely hidden for decades until the 1990s, when he surviviors courageously broke thier silcence. They helped move the world to declare that sexual violence as a stratergy of war is a crime against humanity for which governments must be held accountable. This memorial is dedicated to the memory of these women and to eradicating sexual violence and sexz traficiing throughout the world."
