"The nature reserve is located in the Pas-de-Calais on the coast of the town of Oye-Plage between Calais and Dunkirk and stops on the left bank of the estuary of the Aa Pas-de-Calais. The territory comprises 141 terrestrial hectares at an altitude not exceeding 2 meters and 250 hectares on the public maritime domain.
Plant
The Platier d'Oye, with its numerous biotopes, offers a very diverse flora and vegetation: 361 species have been identified, 86 of which are of heritage interest. They include: pedunculate Obione (national protection), Violette de Curtis (national protection), pyramidal Orchis, cochleate, Panicaut maritime (regional protection), purple Orobanche (regional protection).
Fauna
The Platier d'Oye is a very important migratory corridor which makes it a particularly rich ornithological observation area: 230 species of birds have been observed, 85 of which are of heritage interest. It is particularly a breeding area of different migratory species such as the Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), the Pied Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta), the Redshank Knight (Tringa totanus), the Sandwich Terns (Sterna sandvicensis), Dwarf ( Sterna albifrons) and common merganser (Sterna hirundo), the Pied Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta), the Ringed Plover (Charadrius dubius) and the Ring-necked Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), the Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago), the Pale-billed Gull ( Larus melanocephalus), the Harrier Reed (Circus aeruginosus) ...
It is also a staging and wintering area for many others such as the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), the Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), the White Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia), the White and Black Storks, Snow Bunting (Plectrophenax nivalis), Silver Plover (Pluvialis squatarola) and Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) ...
Guided tours are organized on the reserve by the manager. A free course is also arranged with points of observation of the fauna.
Grazing Highland cows and ponies maintain grasslands that are suitable for some migratory bird species that nest and breed there. To maintain the recent polder area, bodies of water have been dug favoring the parking of many species of ducks.
The European Union Bird Directive No. 1310158 has been applied to this site since 1988. "

Le Platier d'Oye est un couloir migratoire très important qui en fait une zone d'observation ornithologique particulièrement riche : 230 espèces d’oiseaux y ont été observées, dont 85 d’intérêt patrimonial. C'est en particulier une zone de reproduction de différentes espèces migratoires comme : le Vanneau huppé (Vanellus vanellus), l'Avocette élégante (Recurvirostra avosetta), le Chevalier gambette (Tringa totanus), les Sternes caugek (Sterna sandvicensis) , naine (Sterna albifrons) et pierregarin (Sterna hirundo), l'Avocette élégante (Recurvirostra avosetta), le Petit Gravelot (Charadrius dubius) et le Gravelot à collier interrompu (Charadrius alexandrinus), la Bécassine des marais (Gallinago gallinago), la Mouette mélanocéphale (Larus melanocephalus), le Busard des roseaux (Circus aeruginosus)…
C'est aussi une zone d'étape et d'hivernage pour de nombreuses autres comme : l 'Aigrette garzette (Egretta garzetta), le Balbuzard pêcheur (Pandion haliaetus), la Spatule blanche (Platalea leucorodia), les Cigognes blanches et noires, le Bruant des neiges (Plectrophenax nivalis), les Pluviers argentés (Pluvialis squatarola) et dorés (Pluvialis apricaria), le Faucon pèlerin (Falco peregrinus)…
Des visites guidées sont organisées sur la réserve par le gestionnaire. Un parcours libre est également aménagé avec des points d'observation de la faune.
La mise en pâturage de vaches et poneys Highland entretient les prairies qui sont propices à certaines espèces d'oiseaux migrateurs qui s'y reposent et s'y reproduisent. Pour maintenir la zone récente de polder, des plans d'eau ont été creusés favorisant le stationnement de nombreuses espèces de canards.
La Directive oiseaux n°1310158 de l'union européenne s'applique à ce site depuis 1988."
