At the end of World War 1 the light Horse regiments in the Middle East had a surplus of some 13,000 horses and due to quarantine restrictions only one was allowed re-entry into Australia. Given an option of seeing the much loved horses going to the locals where they feared they would be mistreated many of the riders took their mounts into the desert and shot them, the statue depicts one such soldier returning to camp carrying his saddle, bridle and blanket
The plaque on the front reads-
"This Memorial Is Dedicated

And Their Mounts.
