"Butterflies are more than just beautiful garden visitors, they are important pollinators of many plants and provide a source of food for other wildlife. Planting a butterfly banquet can help to protect our native butterflies by providing a safe habitat. Choose a sunny, wind-sheltered site fora butterfly garden. Butterflies are attracted lo colorful, Fragrant flowers that are rich in nectar. They prefer Clusters of small flowers and large, upright flowers that provide a broad landing platform. Add some flat stones where butterflies can bask, and a mud puddle for a source of water and minerals.
Include plants that provide for the needs of butterflies during all four stages of their life: egg, caterpillar (larva), chrysalis and adult. Nectar plants provide food for adult butterflies. Host plants provide a source of food for caterpillars and will encourage butterflies to lay eggs in your garden."
