Stafford is the county town of the county of Staffordshire. The county was also home to the South Staffordshire and North Staffordshire infantry units.
After the war Stafford was chosen to place the memorial to the dead of the regiments and any other men from the county.
The memorial takes the form of a four stepped base with a column, surmounted by bronze commemorative figures.
The figures are of an angel with wings standing next to a horse.
The Imperial War Museum's web site has the following information.
FOUR-STEPPED BASE SURMOUNTED BY TWO PLINTHS AND A COLUMN. THIS IS SURMOUNTED BY FIGURES OF AN ANGEL WITH AN OLIVE BRANCH AND A HORSE FIGURE OF AN ANGEL STANDS BESIDE HORSE. STAFFORDSHIRE KNOT ON FRONT FACE OF PEDESTAL.
There is a bronze plaque on the base of the plinth.
