This area of Oklahoma Territory was first settled after the land Run of 1891. Sarah J. West was the first person buried in Flynn Cemetery, which was established in 1896.
Sarah West's original headstone stands alongside a nearby tree. The inscription reads:

Jn West
Died
July 6, 1896
Aged
48 Yrs. 8 Mo.
Gone but not
Forgotten
East of this headstone a gray granite marker reads:

The Find a Grave listing for Sarah West shows her to have been born in May 1847, which would have made her 49 years and 2 months at her death, yet her headstone reads 48 years 8 months, and the "first" marker shows her dates to be 1848 - 1896. Confusing. The okcemeteries.net website shows Sarah was born on 11/6/1847 which matches the age shown on her headstone.
