Située à la pointe de la confluence de la Sambre et de la Meuse, les Anciens Hospices Saint Gilles de Namur, construits au Moyen-Age étaient une structure d'accueil pour les voyageurs, pauvres, indigents et malades, tenue par des ecclésiastiques, qui étaient entièrement dévoués à la cause d'autrui.
Au milieu du XIIIème siècle, possession de l'Empereur Baudouin II de Constantinople, Comte de Namur, l'édifice est cédé à l'hôpital Saint Samson de Constantinople. Il faudra quelques années et des procès acharnés pour que la bâtisse, fleuron du patrimoine architectural du Namurois fut récupéré par la municipalité.
Depuis lors, les Anciens Hospices Saint Gilles deviennent un élément clé du pouvoir politique de la ville et sont régis par un gouverneur.
A la fin des années 1980, l'édifice devient le siège permanent du parlement Wallon et sera le lieu d'une importante campagne de fouilles, réalisées par la Société Archéologique de Namur.
S'ensuivra une longue période de rénovation du bâtiment, et l'ajout d'une magnifique galerie vitrée, œuvre des architectes Lelubre et Libois.
Depuis 2010 l'ancien hospice Saint Gilles est devenu le lieu officiel où est débattue la politique régionale.
Gelegen op het punt waar de Samber en de Maas samenkomen, zijn de voormalige Hospices Saint Gilles de Namur, gebouwd in de Middeleeuwen, een gastvrije structuur voor reizigers, arm, arm, noodlijdend en ziek, geëxploiteerd door clergiënzers, die zich volledig aan de zaak van anderen wijden.

Op het einde van de jaren tachtig werd het gebouw de vaste zetel van het Waalse parlement en was het de plaats van een grote opgravingscampagne van de Archeologische Vereniging van Namen.
Daarna volgt een lange periode van renovatie van het gebouw en de toevoeging van een prachtige glazen galerij, ontworpen door de architecten Lelubre en Libois.
Sinds 2010 is het voormalige Sint-Gillise-hospitium de officiële plaats waar het regionaal beleid wordt besproken.
Located at the point where the Sambre and Meuse rivers meet, the former Hospices Saint Gilles de Namur, built in the Middle Ages, were a welcoming structure for travellers, poor, underprivileged and sick, run by clergymen, who were entirely devoted to the cause of others.
In the middle of the 13th century, owned by Emperor Baudouin II of Constantinople, Count of Namur, the building was transferred to Saint Samson's Hospital of Constantinople. It will take a few years and hard lawsuits for this building, a jewel of Namur's architectural heritage, to be recovered by the municipality.
Since then, the Old Hospices Saint Gilles have become a key element of the city's political power and are governed by a governor.
At the end of the 1980s, the building became the permanent headquarters of the Walloon Parliament and was the site of a major excavation campaign carried out by the Namur Archaeological Society.
