This is the original Home Run Apple that was in Shea Stadium between 1980 and 2007. Since 2008 a new Home Run Apple has been helping Mets fans celebrate dingers inside Citifield.

Between 1980 and 2007, this large red piece of fruit popped out of its hat everytime a New York Met hit a home run at Shea Stadium.

The icon was so important to Mets fans that when the plans for Citifield didn't include a Home Run Apple there was an uproar. Eventually, a petition and loud voices were enough to encourage stadium designers to include a new Home Run Apple.

The original sits here, in a prominent location, right in front of the main gates into Citifield.
