A grey, trapezoidal-shaped stone block on the grass above the entry to the National Park has a bronze plaque fixed to it, which reads:
In memory of Rudolf W. E. Schütze OAM (1913-2005)
Aware of the 'God, Man, Nature' equation, he respected the Kaurna people
and lands. Over a period of 36 years he worked for the health of the waterway,
from the gorge to the sea, successfully seeking its declaration as a reserve.
A passionate 'Steward of the Earth' he was a lobbyist and volunteer in many
environmental organisations on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
In memory also of his wife Charlotte H. Schütze (1913-1995)
who consistently supported his work.
