Did you know that Rita's Italian Ice got its start in 1984 right here in Pennsylvania? Yes, a former Philadelphia firefighter, Bob Tumolo, wanted to make some extra money so he started selling Italian ice from his porch window in Bensalem. And did you know that his wife's name was Rita? Working with his mother, the Tumolos perfected their sweet treat recipes and began to sell franchises.
In 2005, the Tumolos sold their franchise business to McKnight Capital Partnere who had been operating 48 very successful Wendy's businesses. The company continued to grow and in 2011, they sold a controlling interest in the business to Falconhead Capital, LLC.
Today, there are over 600 active Rita's locations.
This Rita's is open from the end of January till the middle of September. Exact dates change from year to year.
