Harvey CRICH and Samuel NORCROSS were on board the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley V Z6672 ZA-Y of the 10 Squadron when it was shot down on 19 August 1941. The Whitley was on his way to Köln but was hit by a night fighter, the damaged aircraft still managed to unload his bombs at Aachen, DE. After this bombing and during the return to England, the aircraft was hit a second time, this time by Oblt Heinrich Griese of the 1./NJG 1. This attack made the Whitley fatal.
