Wie als Tongenaar, dagjesmens of toerist kuiert langs de Romeinse Muur, kan sinds gisteren even stilstaan en verpozen op ‘Sit 2 me’, een uniek zitmeubel van kunstenaar en edelsmid Raf Verjans (79) uit Tongeren. De creatie, een kunstzinnige kolos in beton, nodigt mensen uit tot een babbel. Op de rug van de speciale constructie heeft Raf Verjans een zogenaamd ‘elfje’ aangebracht. Het gaat om een gedicht dat elf woorden telt. Hierin zit de booschap vervat die de kunstenaar met z’n werk wenst uit te dragen: passant, stop even, rust, luister, vertel ons verhaal morgen, nu, dualiteit! “De maatschappij verzuurt. Mensen zitten veel achter hun pc of tablet. Het individualisme groeit”, wierp Raf Verjans op. “Kortom, de mensen komen minder bij elkaar. Ze hebben meer dan ooit behoefte aan een babbel.” ‘Sit 2 me’ of ‘Zit bij me’ werd met goedkeuring van het stadsbestuur op eigendom van de stad langs de Romeinse Muur geplaatst. “Het staat er niet in opdracht van de stad”, legde Gabriële Pellegrini, designer en schoonzoon van Raf Verjans, uit. Hij is één van de drie kunstenaars die deel uitmaken van het recent opgerichte kunstenaarscollectief ‘ENNE’ dat de zitbank voor eigen rekening heeft geplaatst. “We doen een oproep aan particulieren, bedrijven en gemeenten om een plekje uit te kiezen waar een ‘Sit 2 me’ kan neergezet worden.”
