Union College is one of Schenectady's pride and joys. Founded in 1795, it is the oldest New York university chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. They also had the first ever college fraternity, started in 1825. The urban campus covers 120 lush acres, including several acres of formal gardens. A walk around the campus is quite revealing. Not to be missed is the astonishing Nott Memorial. A remarkable 16-sided structure in the center of the campus, the Nott stands 110-feet tall and 90-feet wide. It is open to the public, and does not disappoint. It is one of only a handful 16-sided buildings in the world. For obvious reasons, the building is colloquially known as "The Nipple."
