The memorial to the victims of the Marchioness Disaster, when a River Thames pleasure boat sank near to the Cathedral.
The memorial is set in the floor in a space occupied by the font, hence the unusual shape of the memorial.
The Marchioness Memorial is in memory to the 51 people who lost their lives & when a River Thames pleasure boat sank near to the Cathedral in 1989.
The octagonal memorial stone dedicated in 1991, has a ship's wheel engraved around the outer edge. A plaque with the names of those lost, located at the head of the memorial.
