Bapchule is a collection of houses around the St. Peter's Mission School. Founded in 1923, the school has approximately 200 students under the tutelage of the Sisters of St. Francis. Bapchule is the home of a famous Marine, Ira Hayes, one of the marines who raised the flag over Iwo Jima. The community, in the past, was a successful farming area with many acres of grain in production. Little is left of the farming culture today.
