Washington Memorial Park contains an obituary for Gertrude that reads:

Gertrude (Larson) Vyse, age 104, born in Selby, SD on February 7, 1912, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Friday, July 15 2016. She was pre-deceased by her parents Hans & Emma Larson, her brothers George & Clarence, her spouse Jack Larson, & sons James & Robert.

Gertrude graduated Selby High (1930) and nurses training in Watertown (1933). She worked as a nurse, continuing part time until she was almost 70. She loved nursing & taking care of people. When younger she had always dreamed of being a race car driver or a pilot, but those professions were denied her because she was a girl. She married Jack Vyse on September 20, 1939. She loved nursing & caring for people. She met Jack Vyse, an airline mechanic employed in Seattle, while working as a nurse in Mobridge. They were married on September 20th, 1939 (the date of her parents 29th wedding anniversary).

She enjoyed traveling with her cousin Hazel to Europe & Scandinavia, gardening, cooking large Thanksgiving meals for family, friends & neighbors that didn't have family in the area, and collecting dolls and stuffed animals. Gertrude volunteered at Bow Lake community center with pancake breakfasts, decorating for Holidays & rummage sales and walking around the park & meeting everyone. In loving memory of Gertrude, we will love you forever!
