EN: The station of Muttenz was opened in 1858. It was part of the Hauenstein line between Basel and Olten, in 1875 the Bözberg route to Zürich was opened.

The station building is a long drawn-out two-story building with hipped roof and two large dormers. Today, this building mainly houses a grocery store and only a few train-specific facilities. Just west of it is a smaller, but similar, outbuilding, which is now connected via a flat roof with the main part. On the north side there is a modern canopy, which is about twice the length of the buildings.

The actual train station is not very big, but optically not to be separated from the immediately adjacent freight yard, which is one of the largest marshalling yards in Europe. Today, Muttenz is part of the S-Bahn network in the Basel region and is served by lines S1 (Basel-Frick or Laufenburg) and S3 (Basel-Olten) every 30 minutes. In addition, various bus lines stop in front of the station.

DE: Der Bahnhof von Muttenz wurde 1858 eröffnet. Er lag an der Hauensteinlinie zwischen Basel und Olten, 1875 kam noch die Bözbergstrecke nach Zürich dazu.

Das Bahnhofsgebäude ist ein langezogenes zweistöckiges Gebäude mit Walmdach und zwei grossen Dachgauben. Dieses Gebäude beherbergt heute vor allem ein Lebensmittelgeschäft und nur noch wenig bahnspezifische Einrichtungen. Etwas westlich davon steht ein kleineres, aber ähnliches Nebengebäude, das heute über einen Flachdachanbau mit dem Hauptteil verbunden ist. An der Norddseite befindet sich ein modernes Vordach, das rund die doppelte Länge des Gebäudes aufweist.

Der eigentlich Bahnhof ist nicht sehr gross, aber optisch nicht vom gleich anschliessenden Güterbahnhof zu trennen, der einer der grössten Rangierbahnhöfe Europas ist. Heute gehört Muttenz zum S-Bahn-Netz der Region Basel und wird von den Linien S1 (Basel-Frick oder Laufenburg) und S3 (Basel-Olten) jeweils im 30-Minuten-Takt angefahren. Daneben halten noch diverse Buslinien vor dem Bahnhof.
