Dante Hall was built in 1926. It served as the parochial school for St Michael's Catholic Church, catering to the area's large Italian community, known as Ducktown.

It also served as Ducktown's community centre, gymnasium and community theatre.

St Michael's closed the school in the mid 1980's. The building sat vacant until 2003 when neighboring Stockton University entered into an agreement with the Diocese to renovate and operate the building as the Dante Hall Theater of the Arts. Work was completed and the building reopened.

The building has a cornerstone, dated 1926, and two carved cement panels, both bearing a passage, one in English, the other in Italian. They are from Dante's Inferno.

The English panel reads:

Ye were not formed to
Live the life of brutes.
But virtue to pursue and
Knowledge high.

Hell. XXVII
