[DE] "Seit der Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts bis 1973 war die Hofburg die Residenz der Bischöfe des Bistums Brixen. Bis zur Säkularisation im Jahre 1803 hatten die Bischöfe auch die weltliche Herrschaft inne, so dass Brixen einen Fürstenhof mit entsprechender Verwaltung hatte. Daher stammt der Name „Hofburg“ für die Residenz. Mit der Verlegung des Bischofsitzes nach Bozen im Jahre 1973 erhielt die Hofburg eine neue Widmung: Seither beherbergt sie das Diözesanmuseum und das Diözesanarchiv.
Nach außen präsentiert sich die Hofburg als geschlossener vierflügeliger Palastbau mit drei Geschossen und zwei massigen turmartigen Vorbauten an der Südseite. Diese vermitteln zusammen mit dem Burggraben, der heute nur noch an der Süd- und Ostseite mit Wasser gefüllt ist, einen eher wehrhaften Charakter. Der Zugang liegt an der Ostseite. War er ursprünglich nur über eine Zugbrücke erreichbar, so führt heute eine gemauerte Brücke über den Burggraben in eine weite, stuckverzierte Eingangshalle, die zum Innenhof hin offen ist. Das eisenbeschlagene Tor stammt noch aus dem Mittelalter.
Der Westflügel gegenüber der Einfahrtshalle bildet mit der Portalanlage der Hofkirche die optische Achse des Hofes. Im Giebelfeld des Portals ist das mit Infel, Stab und Schwert bekrönte Wappen von Fürstbischof Graf Künigl, Vollender des barocken Umbaus, angebracht. Über dem Portal schwebt, auf einer Wolke stehend, die aus weißem Sandstein gehauene Maria Immakulata, die ebenso wie die ganze Portalanlage von Cristoforo Benedetti aus Mori bei Rovereto stammt.
Auch im Inneren hat die Hofburg, abgesehen von den Sammlungen des Diözesanmuseums, eine Reihe von Sehenswürdigkeiten zu bieten, wie die reich ausgestattete Hofkirche, die zwei Räume der Hofratskanzlei sowie den Kaiser- und Bischofstrakt. Der Bau der Hofburg selbst gehört zu einem der reizvollsten und bedeutendsten Baudenkmäler Südtirols."

Originally only accessible via a drawbridge, today a walled bridge over the moat leads into a wide, stucco decorated entrance hall, which is open to the inner courtyard. The iron-clad gate dates back to the Middle Ages.
The west wing opposite the entrance hall forms the optical axis of the courtyard with the portal system of the Hofkirche. In the gable of the portal there is the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Count Künigl, crowned with infel, staff and sword. Above the portal, standing on a cloud, hovers Maria Immakulata, carved out of white sandstone, which, like the entire portal complex, comes from Cristoforo Benedetti from Mori near Rovereto.
Apart from the collections of the Diözesanmuseum, the interior of the Hofburg also offers a number of sights, such as the richly furnished Hofkirche, the two rooms of the Hofratskanzlei and the imperial and bishop's wing. The building of the Hofburg itself is one of the most charming and important monuments in South Tyrol."
