While the home looks like it could use a little TLC, it is otherwise well-maintained, and appears to be a private residence, judging by the car and boat in the garage. You won't be able to miss the "Certified Butterfly Habitat" at the front gate.
The Old Baldwine Home is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and a 1967 Texas Historical Marker provides a sound-byte:
Mid-Victorian architecture; built 1890s by John Baldwin. His cotton gin patrons -- 70 or 80 per day -- were guests at meals in the home.
During early 1940's, many legislators, two governors -- Coke Stevenson, W.L. O'Daniel -- were entertained here.
