Gerald J. Ford Stadium is located on the Campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The stadium is the second stadium to stand on this site. The Original home to SMU Football was Ownby Stadium which was demolished in 1998 to make room for the current stadium. Ford Stadium was constructed at a cost of approximately $42 million dollars and opened on September 2, 2000 when the Mustangs hosted the Kansas Jayhawks. The current seating capacity is approximately 32,000 but on December 30, 2010 a record crowd of 36,742 saw the Army Black Knights defeat the Mustangs 16-14 in the Armed Forces Bow. The stadium is name for Gerald J. Ford (no connection to President Gerald R. Ford) who was a billionaire banker that provided the funding for the stadiums construction.
