A 23' high by 7' square, gray granite obelisk with 6 rough cut, equally spaced, granite bands was placed by the State of Connecticut to honor the soldiers of the 21st Regiment Connecticut Volunteers who served during the Civil War.

On the north base of the obelisk are a pair of crossed rifles and the inscription:

HONOR OF HER
CITIZEN SOLDIERS

On the north side of the obelisk is inscribed:
