Listed Südermühle in Meldorf from 1819
As early as 1500, the Südermühle, together with the cathedral and the Nordermühle, was a landmark of Meldorf, the then capital of the farmer's republic of Dithmarschen.
In the following centuries, grain was ground to flour, groats, cattle feed and much more with wind power. At that time grain was the only staple food of the large families until the potato came here.
While the method of grain milling with the help of large stones remained the same until today, the drive techniques were improved. After the Bockmühlen, where the entire body was turned on a frame by hand against the wind, came in the 19th century Dutch mills, in which only the cap is rotated with the wings, first by hand, and later automatically by windmill.
During the great mill dying in the 1950s, the Südermühle abandoned its activity against the competition of engine mills and fell into disrepair.
In 1984, the current owners bought the property and restored the mill built in 1892 as gallery holland with windrose and the granary of the old model from scratch.
The technique of the wing and wind rose with the 13-tonne cap was restored to authentic model and works.
