The National Capital Commission (NCC) maintains waypoint signs throughout the Greenbelt, a natural area which surrounds the city of Ottawa. The waypoints mark trail intersections. The signs include geographic co-ordinates and a map of other waypoints.
Waypoint 23 G marks the intersection bewteen the north-south trail (once a road) and the trail which runs parallel to the Trans Canada Trail (TCT). The sign does not refer to the intersection with the Trans Canada Trail (once a railroad). That trail parallel to and north of the TCT is now signed as trail #23. However, some signs survive from when it was known as trail #7.
