Petra a Pavla.

Baroque sandstone statue of St. John Nepomuk has been placed in the garden between the building of the parish and the St. Peter and St. Paul Church. Originally it stood on St. John's Square. The pedestal on which the statue stands is decorated with many inscriptions, which are unfortunately now unreadable. The statue is dated around 1730.

St. John of Nepomuk was a czech priest, Prague general vicar, born around 1345 in Pomuk (Nepomuk) in Bohemia. In 1393 he fell into disfavor at King Wenceslas IV. because contrary to his intentions to strengthen the royal power, John confirmed the election of a new (independent) abbot in Kladruby. Several church officials were arrested and tortured at the command of the king. John of Nepomuk was tortured most brutally. The king presented to all those who were arrested to sign a public charter that they would be silent about their arrest and torture. The only one who did not sign was John, and on the same day (March 20, 1393) he was tied up and overthrown from the Charles Bridge to the Vltava river.
John of Nepomuk's own beatification took place in 1721. In the examination of John's remains, a soft tissue, proclaimed as a saint's tongue (today's medical science speaks of brain tissues), was discovered in his skull. Eight years later, in 1729, John was canonized.
