The Almira State Bank was organized in 1902. It was sold to the National Bank of Commerce in July, 1948. We have no information as to how long ago the last bank left the building nor when the post office moved in.
Judging from the style of the building and the corbeling in the brickwork, the building was quite likely built for the Almira State Bank at or around the time of its incorporation. It is a relatively simple single storey brick building with Roman Revival archways over the windows and the angled corner entrance. All windows, and the entrance, once had glass filled arched transoms which have since been bricked in, as have the northerly two windows on the building's west side. These can be seen in the old photo we have found, likely taken shortly after completion of the building. As well, the name, "Almira State Bank", can be seen over the entrance and in the front window.
