The Long Wharf dates back to 1710, extending the base of King Street, now known as State Street. Once a half-mile in length, land fill for the growing city has left a much-shortened wharf.
Designed by architect Isaiah Rogers, the four-storey Custom House Block was built in 1848. According to the relevant National Register of Historic Places
Registration Form, the Custom House Block provides an example of the monumental granite structures that
lined Boston's docks during the zenith of its commercial prosperity.
