Keystone Avenue is a major thoroughfare for vehicles and pedestrians until it reaches Gibson Street. At that point vehicular traffic comes to an end but a cement stairway continues to serve pedestrians. The first segment rises to Roosevelt Street. The next segment carries on up the hill and along a ridge to Kenney street. This allowed miners to move from their work at the top of the hill down to the business district. The stairs gain a total of 135 vertical feet between Gibson and Kenney streets.
