The Mariensäule at Tittmoninger Stadtplatz

is a work of the Tittmoninger sculptor Johann Georg Itzlfeldner from the year 1758. The sculpture was donated by the shipmaster and merchant Johann Michael Wilhelmseder (1729-1787), who married Maria Elisabeth Standlin from Laufen in 1755. Perhaps the foundation was based on the pious desire for a happy, child-rich marriage, as the alliance's arms of both families are depicted on the show side of the pedestal. The inscription "Mater Del VIrgo sIne Labe Con Cepta" means "Mother of God, Maiden, received without sin" and shows the Latin number MDCCLVIII or the year 1758 as a chronogram.
