This history museum is located in a three-story stone building which was built in 1926, and was once a Masonic Grand Lodge. The museum is housed on the ground floor. The staff was extremely helpful and interesting, and we learned much about Okemah's history while here.
There is a replica of an early schoolhouse room, and hundreds of artifacts from days gone by. Old newspapers and photos were fascinating. Historical information about the town's favorite son, Woody Guthrie is also on display. There is also a document library and a gift shop.
There is no cost for the museum, however, donations are greatly appreciated.
