Sculpted by Red Dennis, the memorial is made of Indiana marble, blank on the reverse, with this text inscribed on the front:

The
Confederate
Soldier

Though ragged, weary,
tired and poor,
he boldly made the fight

Though fate denied
him victory,
can truth deny him right?

Two nearly identical bronze plaques are on each side, with the Confederate battle flag at the top, and this text:

Erected in 2004 to the memory of the Confederate veterans who lived in Wynnewood and on the surrounding farms, and to those soldiers whose mortal remains lie in Oaklawn Cemetery and the following rural cemeteries: Iona, Klondike, Lewis, Phantom Hill, and Wynnewood View.

The area veterans are then listed, requiring the two plaques to cover all the names:
