Very much off the beaten path. This marker denotes the Civil War battlefield of Champion Hill. This battle was part of the Vicksburg campaign of U.S. Grant and was one of the largest engagements of the campaign.

Most of the battlefield is still private land and very little can be seen because of the heavy timber and undergrowth in the area but it is still an important place in National and Mississippi history.

Be very careful on the roads leading to the marker. They are narrow and winding.
