This is the only tree trunk shaped Woodmen of the World headstone located in Mt. Union Cemetery and although weathered and worn, the WoW symbol and name is legible.

Some neat history in this Oregon historical cemetery based on a historical marker located near the entrance:

On May 11, 1861 Reuben and Mary Jane Holmes Shipley, former negro slaves, deeded from their farm purchased from Charles Bales' donation land claim, the original plot for this cemetery.
Buried in Lot 10 are Reuben Shipley, Mary Jane Shipley Drake, Alfred Drake, and the Shipley children:

Ella                          Martha
Wallace                       William

The weblink to Fred L. Ellsworth's grave on Findagrave.com. His death certificate notes he died of shock from an injury to his hip/thigh.

Was the inscription legible?: Yes
