Le cinéma Castillet, achevé en 1911, illustre la transformation de la cité au début du 20e siècle. Comme le skating mitoyen (patinoire), ils incarnèrent les nouveaux loisirs en vogue. L’architecte de cet édifice, Eugène Montès, s’inspira des architectures théâtrales du 19e siècle, mais aussi des pavillons d'expositions universelles. Le cinéma Castillet, orné d'éléments sculptés et de frises en faïence polychrome d'esprit Art Nouveau, œuvre du sculpteur toulousain Alexandre Guénot, est un des plus anciens et des plus beaux de France; ce qui lui avalu son inscription au titre des monuments historiques .Ce sont les descendants du fondateur Jean FONT, originaire de Barcelone, qui exploite le cinéma."

The Castillet cinema, completed in 1911, illustrates the transformation of the city at the beginning of the 20th century. Like the adjoining skating (ice rink), they embodied the new hobbies in vogue. The architect of this building, Eugène Montès, was inspired by theatrical architectures of the 19th century, but also pavilions of universal exhibitions. The Castillet cinema, adorned with sculpted elements and polychrome faience friezes of Art Nouveau spirit, the work of the Toulouse sculptor Alexandre Guénot, is one of the oldest and most beautiful in France; which earned him his inscription as historical monuments. These are the descendants of the founder Jean FONT, a native of Barcelona, who exploited the cinema."

"Le cinéma est présent dans les Pyrénées-Orientales depuis 1898, apparu avec les forains ambulants et différents types de cinématographes. Ils disparaissent progressivement du fait des conditions imposées plus tard par les frères Lumière qui favorisent les véritables salles de cinéma. Les deux premiers cinémas de Perpignan, le Castillet et l'Apollo, sont créés en 1911. L'Apollo a depuis disparu et le Castillet peut revendiquer de nos jours le titre de plus ancien cinéma de France encore en activité1. Les façades et toitures sont inscrites au titre des monuments historiques en 1997 et, en tant que construction du xxe siècle, obtient également le label « Patrimoine du xxe siècle »"
