The plaque says, "Within a short distance this trail travels from the relatively lush world of the river corridor to the stunted vegetation of true desert. Watch for the change in plant species, from wildflower and willows to cactus and pinyon pines. At trail's end, on top of a small mesa, there are views of Watchman, lower Zion Canyon, and town of Springdale. The overlook also provides a high-angle perspective on how the Virgin River not only carves the cliffs and canyons but creates sharp contrasts in vegetation."
