This house was built in 1836, so it is pre-Victorian. It was built by the son of one of the founders of French Azilum as a summer home. It remained in the family for several years.

It has hand blown glass windows panes with white lead frames. Many of the ceilings are painted.
Entrance to French Azilum Historic Site is 5 dollars. Tours start at 11., last tour at 4. They are given on the hour.

French Azilum was built in 1793, the time of the French Revolution, for French refugees, including Marie Antoinette. She never made it here, but John LaPorte was born at French Asylum at the house built for Marie Antoinette in 1798. John LaPorte was the son of Bartholomew LaPorte, an original settler. John LaPorte became a U.S. congressman.
