Located in front of the Benton County Historical Museum building is a metal plaque monumented on top of a Roman column base reads:
TO THE YARD MAN ----------------------------------- The Friends of Donald Kabler wish to express our appreciation for your work in maintaining the grounds of the Benton County Historical Museum since 1977. ----------------------------------- Installed Labor Day 1998 |
I couldn't locate an obituary but it appears Don Kabler passed away in the early 2000s. He is mentioned in a newspaper article from 2011 when his estate granted $258,000 towards installing a new cedar shingle roof atop the Benton County Historical Museum building (formerly a Methodist college). He was also instrumental in salvaging the museum building from demolition in the 1970s. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 as Philomath College. It hasn't been a college since 1929 and served as a church until the late 1960s.
